Wet, damp, and dry ratings are possible location ratings, each with different requirements.
Wet and damp rating fixtures are able to be used in a bathroom because they can be exposed to moisture. A wet rating means the fixture can come in direct contact with water — possible because all of the wiring components are sealed shut. A damp-rated fixture allows moisture to build up, but not in direct contact with any splashing or stream of water.
How Many Lights Are Needed Near the Vanity?
The number of lights needed will depend on the size and the layout of the vanity. If the vanity has only a single sink, a pair of wall sconces will provide the most effective, even lighting. Wall sconces are best placed 28-30" apart and 60-70" from the bottom of the fixture to the bathroom floor. If additional light is desired, consider adding a vanity light above the mirror or have a mirror that contains an internal light.
For a vanity light above a mirror, the light should be no more than a third of the width of the mirror.
How much space should there be between a sconce and a mirror?
Sconces should be at least 4 inches from the mirror. This ensures the electrical box behind the wall can fit and also provides welcomed empty space in the décor that helps the room breathe by establishing the beginning and end of individual pieces.

Color temperature is important in the bathroom. A color temperature close to daylight, somewhere in the range of 4,000K to 5,000K, is ideal so all those grooming tasks can be seen.
