Design Luminaries Competition Terms + Conditions

Introduction

Lumens is holding a design competition to celebrate the next generation of design stars. The Design Luminaries Competition is an opportunity for up-and-coming designers to conceptualize a coworking space for designers. Winning designs will be featured on Lumens marketing properties, which may include but are not limited to Lumens social media channels, the Lumens.com website and associated sites, emails and print properties. The judging panel will include top design executives and the Lumens Innovators Council. Please submit your designs by 9pm Pacific on May 19, 2023, to be considered.

By entering the competition, you agree to these competition terms and conditions. The competition is being sponsored and run by Lumens.com, hereafter known as Lumens, 2020 L Street, Ste LL10, Sacramento, CA 95811.

Eligibility to Enter

The competition is open to entrants over 18 years of age residing in the United States and Canada who are either (1) a currently enrolled design student or (2) the proprietor of a small business that has been operating for at least two years. Lumens employees and associates are excluded from the contest.

By entering the competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and that you are eligible to receive any prizes that may be awarded to you. You also confirm that you are responsible for any and all taxes associated with receiving the Prizes outlined below.

There is a limit of one entry per person/small business and there is no purchase necessary to enter the competition.

How to Enter

Use the provided floorplan on https://lumens.com/design-luminaries.html to show your proposed design and layout. Mock-up an initial design concept for at least two of the following spaces: Lounge; Breakout space; Presentation room; Sample bank showroom; Main coworking space.

Submissions to Include: Entrant's CV/resume; Furnished Plan; 2-3 Illustrated Examples of Space (Sketch, rendering, model…); 500- to 1000-word description of design concept; Product List (sourced from Lumens.com). Submissions shall be emailed as one complete PDF to [email protected]. Digital submission is required for entry. Additional physical materials may be sent to the Lumens office at 2020 L Street, Ste LL10, Sacramento, CA 95811. Physical submissions will not be returned.

Entries open at 12:00am Pacific on March 1, 2023. Submissions will be accepted until 11:59pm Pacific on May 19, 2023.

Your Content

You agree that you are the original owner of all content and information you share with us via the submission email [email protected].

By submitting any materials to the above email address, or via mail-in submission, you give Lumens permission to use your materials as follows:

• Granting Lumens and its affiliates a license to reproduce, display, perform, distribute, create derivative works from and otherwise use Your Content in connection with the Site and for other marketing purposes; including and not limited to print and digital catalogs, email and other customer communications, store materials and marketing materials.
• We may display advertisements in connection with Your Content or on pages where Your Content may be viewed by you or others, and we may use Your Content to advertise and promote Lumens as a whole. Our license to Your Content is non-exclusive, meaning you may use Your Content for your own purposes or let others use Your Content for their purposes.
• Our license to Your Content is fully paid and royalty free, meaning we do not owe you anything else in connection with our use of Your Content. We may exercise our rights anywhere in the world. Finally, our license is perpetual, meaning that our license lasts indefinitely.

You further agree that

• You own all rights to Your Content or, alternatively, that you have the right to give Lumens the rights described above.
• You have paid and will pay in full any fees or other payments that may be related to the use of Your Content; and Your Content does not infringe the intellectual property rights, privacy rights, publicity rights, or other legal rights of any third party. 
• We may refuse to accept or transmit Your Content for any reason. We may remove Your Content from the Site for any reason.

Prizes

Three Prizes will be awarded in each of two categories: Student and Small Business. Two (2) First Prizes include $2500 cash; a custom, high-resolution computer-generated image of the winning design; an online mentorship session with the Lumens Innovators Council; a highlight of the winning design and designer on the Lumens website and other marketing properties; a commemorative prize from Lumens. Two (2) Second Prizes include $500 cash; $500 in credit to the winner's Lumens.com account; mention on the Lumens website and other marketing properties; a commemorative prize from Lumens. Two (2) Third Prizes include $500 in credit to the winner's Lumens.com account; mention on the Lumens website and other marketing properties; a commemorative prize from Lumens.

The use of specific brands as prizes by Lumens does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement of this contest by such brands.

The Prizes are non-transferable and non-exchangeable, and no cash alternatives will be provided. Except in the case of the First Prize cash awards, no Prizes are redeemable for cash. Lumens reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value if circumstances beyond our control require doing so.

Lumens' decision on any aspect of the competition is final and binding, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding it.

Judging and Winners

Judging will take place from June 1, 2023, through August 15, 2023. Winners will be selected by the Lumens Design Luminaries Competition judging panel, to include members of the Lumens Innovators Council and Lumens executive leadership. Winners will be selected based on 1) their eligibility for the contest 2) their adherence to the contest design guidelines 3) the content of their design submission. Winners will be notified via the email address provided at entry throughout the month of September 2023. Lumens will make two attempts to contact each winner via email.If the winners do not respond to the emails informing them of their win within 14 days of the second email, they forfeit their right to the prize, and Lumens reserves the right to select and notify a new winner.

Upon acceptance, winners shall provide a brief biography and high-resolution head shot/portrait for inclusion in Lumens marketing materials.

Delivery of the Prizes

The winner will allow 60 days for the prizes to be delivered; alternative collection or delivery arrangements can be made through mutual agreement.

Data Protection and Publicity

You agree that any personal information that you provide when entering the competition will be used by Lumens for the purposes of administering the competition and for the other purposes as specified in our Privacy Policy.

All entrants may request information on the winning participant by emailing [email protected].

The winners' first and last names, school or business name and country of residence will be announced on Lumens' website, social media channels and other marketing properties as determined by the Lumens team.

Limitation of Liability

Lumens accepts no liability for any damage, loss, injury, or disappointment suffered by any entrants as a result of participating in the competition or being selected for a prize.

General

Lumens reserves the right, at any time and without prior notice, to cancel the competition or amend these terms and conditions. Gift Card/account credit winners must create a Lumens.com account and agree to the site Terms and Conditions to redeem that prize.
